Basic Bulgarian Food Staples Register Record Price Hike
The price of sugar has hit a record high in Bulgaria in February, according to data from the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Market Places.
Prices in Bulgaria continue to climb with sugar price up 22% and those of cooking oil and flour – up nearly 7%, in the course of just one month.
Beans, milk products, fish, pork and chicken meat are up from 1% to 2%;
cabbage and potatoes - 34% and 20% respectively, cucumbers – 11%.
Prices of rice, some meat products, oranges and lemons are down;
the price of eggs remains unchanged.
On annual basis, compared to February 2010, price of cooking oil is up 52% and the price of flour is up 41% - these are the most staggering product price hikes, according to the Commission's data.
Other large annual price increases include sugar, lentils, milk products, fish and chicken meat – between 20%-30% while prices of eggs and hot dogs are down 28% and 8% respectively.
