well thats what me dear old mum used to say.......

Oh my word - I put a wash on last night about 23.50 - but guess I WILL be OK as it was for a good cause - Someone dropped off some soft toys around 8pm - so I put them all in the washing machine so they would be ready for filling the big toy boxes for the babies orphanage All packed up now

, I only wish I had known you 40 years ago and taken your advice. I now know where I went wrong. I am about to put today's washing back in the machine and turn the knobs into reverse, hopefully it will all come back out dirty because I don't want any more bad luck

ive done 2 washes today, so i have had it for this year.

When I was a little girl my mum told me that at the stroke of midnight she had to get a dark stranger to come in the house from the back door with a piece of coale and give it to her and then leave through the front door and this would ensure a new year without any evil happenings

That's right it's known as first footing. I also had to do this when I was a lad as well. It's a Scottish tradition

It is believed that if you cry on the first day of the New Year, you will be crying all through the year. If you work on the first day, does that mean you will have work all through the year regardless of the recession? Oh no...............

If you have a bit of nooky on the first day, what does that mean. In my case it means that I was lucky

Many superstitions are only relevant from midnight to midnight.
Too late for this year.......... Open every window and door to allow old year out and new year in.

Take nothing out of the house not even yourself until the first footer has come in the door. The first footer must be a man.......a woman means rows in the house for the year. The man must take a piece of coal piece of bread piece of silver and a piece of greenery. Wear red clothes and do not change your clothes on the day.do not wash laundry or you bring death to the door in the year.
Do not spend money or you spend foolish all year,
do not lend or borrow or you borrow and lend all year. Wash all floors and clean all surfaces new years eve to wash the old year out .
If you do any manual work you will have a year of hard labour
do not eat polutry like turkey or chicken as poultry scrach for their food and you will have many a hungry day in the year
eat pork, like ham sausages etc as pigs only move forward when eating so this ensures you move forward in your life
keep coins and cash in every purse or wallet in the house to ensure no one is broke during the year.

If you drive then you will drive all year without need
if you rise early you shall rise early all year.

Make a note for next year and try it. Its just one day and you never know

Create as much noise as possible: Try shouting at the top of your voice as noises are supposed to scare the devils. What happens when devils get scared? They don’t enter your house and hence you will have good luck for the entire year. ::
