Bulgarian authorities will be addressing the dangers of drunk-skiing by targeting British tourists with a special information campaign, Bulgarian media reported on December 13.
With the start of the 2010/11 winter season, about 300 000 British tourists were expected to descend upon Bulgaria's winter resorts. Some see no danger in mixing skiing with alcohol intake, which in the winter, up the mountain is particularly dangerous.
The issue would be tackled together with the British embassy in Sofia, which has worked on a campaign to be implemented with the help of Bulgarian authorities, Bulgarian news agency Focus said.
The campaign was discussed at a meeting between British ambassador to Bulgaria Steve Williams and Interior Ministry officials on December 13, the agency said. The campaign would aim to raise awareness among tourists of the dangers involved when skiing under the influence.
In related news, the Interior Ministry said that it would post police officers speaking at least two foreign languages in winter resorts, with an additional emphasis on hotels, restaurants and ski slopes, to "
improve communication"
with foreign tourists.

Why an emphasis on British? They might be better looking closer to home.

| Dont know about the ski resorts but in Sunny Beach in the summer its not the British its the people from Finland and Russia that are the worst.  |

| Does get me as we are the ones that are always given the bad press, this year there were large groups of young teenagers that were doing the pub crawls, very small amount British but if there was ever any problems it was already recorded as the British not fair at all. |

| I can only say that I have been into Sunny beach once at night during the season.I tend to only go into it during the day and that's to go to the Supermarkets as I like Vlas as it's quieter.I guess I'm comparing it to places like certain areas of Spain which must have far more Hoody clad Chav's running around being sick and fighting after twenty pints of alchopop's? My 18 year old daughter and her friend were over for two weeks last year.They hated the village as it was too quiet but loved Sunny beach! They really took advantage of free entry and first drink free for girls in the Clubs.Being wise they just did a Club crawl and had free nights out.They came in one night having spent ten lev between them,and I think that was on transport. |

I don't know about them being sensible.I think it's more the case that they sussed out that they could get a free skin full and have a boogie in the clubs whilst doing so.I think they treated Sunny beach like a corporate event or a works Christmas party and gorged themselves on the freebee's! Yes, I agree with your thoughts on Sunny beach but I wasn't about to divulge my thoughts for fear of reprisals! |
