600 Brits Owe 2-Year Taxes to Bulgarian Municipality

Around 600 UK owners have not paid their taxes for their apartments in the Bulgarian resort Pamporovo for the past two years, the municipality of the Bulgarian town of Chepelare has announced.

The Deputy Mayor of Chepelare, Georgi Pepelanov, said that the municipality has sent the 600 UK debtors letters in English to their home addresses in the UK to kindly ask them to voluntarily pay their taxes. The letters cost about BGN 1 000.

Pepelanov added that the municipality believes that the late payments are a result of a misunderstanding between the companies managing the apartments and the owners.

“Russians and Spanish also have apartments here but they pay their taxes regularly,” Pepelanov said, adding that the uncollected taxes amount to BGN 600 000 and there are some big hotels from Pamporovo among the debtors.

Pepelanov also said that the municipality has received from the hotels only about one third of the amounts declared for the resort fee.

Tut Tut when will these people ever learn ??? they know what will happen and its the same in the uk so why do they do it???

We thought we had paid all our taxes for the last four years but no, for some reason the tax for emptying the communal bin had been posted to an address where my sister had once lived in Momchilovtsi.

Luckily the fine was not as big as the lunch we had on the way to pay the shortfall, I think some of the staff at the Municipal building are beginning to realise that heavy fines are not the way to encourage investors to Bg.

I was in Sunny beach last week, all set to pay my local tax in Nessebar to be told by the site manager my Bulsat was not ready and I would not understand how to complete the form anyway (its in bulgarian). I completed late May, will just have to wait and see when My Bulsat is ready. Many owners are willing to pay, if the Bulgarian local govt know many their are many oversea buyers thent the notary should ensure they are aware of their obligations and present a form (with trnslations) at the time of taking ownership. Here in th Uk many forms come in communty languages.

Is that all I am surprised it is not a lot more!! I find it unreal to be honest. How many in Sunny Beach have not paid theres, I'd hate to guess 600 isn't bad I guess

I totally reject this comment and I think I have every good reason as to why
I bought and have owned a property in Bulgaria for nearly four years with a number of major problems on route, all bought about by criminals and organised crime concerning the notary, lawyers and of course the perpetrators in Bulgaria
Even though we won our court case in the Dobrich District Court in December last year we had to fight the perpetrators, Metodi the owner of Bild Leasing in Sofia and his gang to get the keys to OUR Villa which we eventually got in March this year. We could not pay any of our utility bills including council tax because our Villa has only been registered back in our name since we got the Supreme Courts decision on 23rd September just gone, so Blink is not a case of all British property hunters setting up their own rules, we are not all tarred with the same brush. I think that the Bulgarian Authorities are top of the league for moving the goal posts

do you see any mention of anything your talking about here ? NO so why bring it up on every thread you can , I'm sorry if you are offended but this thread has absolutely nothing to do with the points you have raised here and I would suggest that the mod removes it yes ok you couldn't pay your tax for various reasons but that's all you needed to say you don't have to drone on all the time about you property related fraud :Headbang:all you had to say is we had problems paying our tax because of our recent issues with the property. And everyone would have know why

This doesn't surprise me, but I would have thought it would of been higher. The problem is there are so many people who don't know what taxes need to be paid and where :Headbang:so why do they complain they want us all to invest but offer very little help in return

I actually thought that our lawyer was paying all our taxes but got some info to say this is not the case and only the tax returns were paid, but not my new accountant Nominal Ltd can't find us on the registrar :: I don't know what is happening now, have to deal with it next year. ::

From what I have read in the past I would say that Bigsavak has hit the nail on the head so yes I too am surprised that its not a lot higher and again what help does Bulgaria offer in the way of help to foreigners to be able to live a law abiding life

I know exactly where you are coming from when you say you don't know (neither do they know) what is happening. I will try to find out some information and let you have it on my return later this month as I think they might have a problem finding me on a register

I know for a fact that over 300 people (not all British) don't even know if they own a property let alone owe any tax, and some of those people claim that as many as three different people have paid for the same property so how would they know if they owe any tax. It's a crazy situation and very sad
