US Peace Corps volunteers organised a "
haunted house"
in Bulgaria’s ancient capital of Veliko Turnovo, Bulgarian National Television reported on October 30 2010.
The aim was for local children from kindergartens and schools to experience the atmosphere of Halloween, which a Peace Corps volunteer from Florida, Jesse Rufis (name may be misspelt) described as a "
great American tradition in which we all put on different costumes"
.
Preparations began some months ago, to come up with Halloween costumes. A participant in the event, Radoslav Radoslavov, was quoted by BNT as saying "
my role was, when they walk through the door, to jump out of a coffin and scare them. I was dressed up as Dracula"
.
Children were under adult supervision, the report said, and would go home with many "
treats"
.
