Has any member had any information on the UK Health S1 Form for Brits living abroad? I am informed by a friend that we phone the UK Health office from BG and give our National Insurance number and other details, they then send us an S1 Form to fill in and return to them. In due time the necessary documents are forwarded to us to apply for full health cover in BG. If one or bother partners are retired the whole cost is free, also children living at the same address.

The negative side I am also informed is that you are then not entitled to NHS care when returning to the UK. So there is a lot of grey areas and it would be a distinct advantage if any member has more information on the subject.

The s1 forms are sent from the pension service, tyneview park, medical benefits, newcastle upon tyne. tel...0191 21 87777. they complete the form for you and you take it to your local health authority. who process it for you. with the s1 you can now officially register with a doctor. does take a few months. its not totally free. a consultation with a doctor will cost only 2.20 lev rather than 25 lev we got charged before the s1. tablets are free if its for your head or your heart. any other part of the body, you pay. :Very funny 2:my other half pays 26 lev a month for three different lot of tablets. but the costs are minimal.

you will lose your rights to uk nhs treatment as you have to be resident, however, you will be provided with an ehic card from the uk which entitles you to emergency treatment in any eu country. g

you will have to check up about family members and children. i know you can select members to be on your ehic card, but for registration i really dont know. c

Many thanks for your info starlite - there is always a downside to life isn't there, in as much as 'don't expect the BG's and the NHS to to both treat you free at the same time.' The fact that we paid into the NHS system all our lives doesn't mean that we are entitled to NHS care whenever we return to the UK.

it is annoying that as an expat you suddenly become an alien to the uk. we rang the uk because our ehic card had not arrived and was told. "
we cannot speak to you, you are not a british resident."

which i pointed out that as a current tax payer (still) and a fully paid up member, am i not now entitled in my twilight years to experience and explore the world at my leisure. the same that you do on your team building jollies that i actually pay for you to go. UK Government S1 Form! 2706089290
I was passed rather quickly to another department. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
