| Is anyone in the north of Bulgaria growing figs? I just wondered if they were ripening or not because mine are not in Balchik and it's getting late in the season. Is there any chance of them ripening now or not? If not, any recipes for small unripened figs?
Regards, George. |

| Hi George
They should certainly be starting to drop off the tree of their own accord by now!
If they don't ripen in the next 8-10 days, then there's no hope this year.
Have you taken the skin off one to see if it's actually edible? If so, cook something very slow, like fig jam. |

| Hi Chris, I half expected you to say " bang them in a curry" :) They're not " dropping off" at all. Maybe the strange weather has affected them this year. I was up at my other place in Krapets the other day and they were just the same there. All other fruits such as grapes, redcurrants, raspberries, strawberries, apples, gooseberries have been fine, just the figs for some reason. I haven't taken any skins off, they're just too small to even consider eating at this stage. I'll just give them a bit more time and then take action :) Regards, George |
