Address Registration in Sofia Only against Property
Notarial act demanded for address registration in Sofia

One can get an address registration in Sofia if only he or she shows a notarial act. Those who want to get address registrations should prove they have property in Sofia. Those who rent a place and want an address registration should take their landlords to the municipality they live in. The landlords are obliged to announce their tenants and to declare their incomes from the rent money they get.
So far, the address registrations could be changed only against an ID card but this was a loophole for a big number of tricks from those who wanted to be registered in Sofia. There are cases of tens of people registered at one and the same place. The municipality councillors in the city of Plovdiv were shocked when they found out that some 800 Romani were registered at one and the same address.
So far, the new address registry requirement is valid only for Sofia. It is very likely that it reaches all Bulgarian cities and towns soon, sources from the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works informed.
