Bulgaria Might Face Increase of Dairy Products Prices

The Association of dairy processors in Bulgaria has announced it is expecting an increase in the prices of dairy products in October.

According to the Association's Deputy Head, Simeon Prisadashki, the price for the raw material has increased by 15% in September.

"
The most important thing for people to understand is that there is no milk in Bulgaria. The situation is like this. There is no farming. In Europe, there is a shortage of raw material,"
Prisadashki said.

He refused to comment on how the increase of the price for raw material in September would affect the prices for the end users. He said, however, that the prices in his company will be increased from October.

"
There was one increase of prices in September, based on the prices in August. Actually, the tendency for increasing of prices started in August,"
Prisadashki said.

According to the head of the Bulgarian Association of Agricultural Producers, Hristo Tsvetanov, the fruits and vegetables also increased by 10% in September. He believes that the reason is the reflux of the vegetables production.

60 000 Bulgarian Dairy Farms Don't Follow EU Standards

Between 60 000 and 65 000 dairy farms in Bulgaria do not meet the European standards for hygiene, but 24 000 of them sell milk on the market.

The data was announced Monday by Bulgaria's Deputy Agriculture Minister Tsvetan Dimitrov.

"
After we identified the farms, we decided on measures that would have to be implemented this year,"
he said.

In his words, it was decided last week that the State Agriculture Fund should fund the diary sector.

"
For the purpose, EUR 80 M will be provided from the Program for Rural Development and BGN 20 M will be provided from the state budget as a loan,"
Dimitrov said.

He has explained that very farm owner who wants to improve the conditions in his farm will receive about 60-65% of the needed investment. Second and third category farms need about BGN 20-40 000 of investments, he added.

An informational campaign for stock breeders is scheduled to begin March 7. According to Dimitrov, experts from the Agriculture Ministry will explain to farmers what they should do in order to cover the minimum requirements.

"
If farmers have started their investments, whether with funding from the State Agriculture Fund or not, even if they have not completed it within the respective year, their farms will not be closed. But they will be forbidden to sell milk,"
he said.

2011 is the last year, in which farmers have to meet the European standards for hygiene of the milk.

At the beginning of February, the Agriculture Ministry announced that 2609 dairy farms in Bulgaria meet all the criteria for hygiene of the milk and the equipment

60% to 65% sounds to be quite good but what about the rest? most Bulgarian farmers live on the bread line and can not afford to pay this extra money so they will have to give up their livelihood and then what will become of them and their families, its alright the eu saying that we need to do this or that but what about the casualties along the way who's going to pick up the mess that they always leave behind you only have to look at other countries that joined the eu and were forced to comply with their stupid laws which left a lot of families homeless and very poor indeed, I dread to think how Bulgaria will cope in the future with all the other laws yet to be implemented.
