Bulgaria's Rich Reimbursed with Excise Duties on Expensive Cars
The owners of 17,000 luxurious SUVs may be reimbursed with excise duties worth several thousand levs each
The Bulgarian government has started reimbursing the owners of luxurious SUV's in Bulgaria for the higher excise duties that they have paid. The campaign was launched after the Luxembourg-seated European Court of Justice ruled out the higher excise duties on secondhand cars with engines of over 163 hp with the motive that the excise duties on secondhand cars could not be higher than that on new ones.
According to information of the national customs agency, about 17,000 SUV owners have the right to claim excise duties reimbursement, and some of them have already filed the necessary documents.
