Bulgarian Teenagers to Receive Sexual Education

A Bulgarian pharmaceutical company and the Ministries of Education and Health will start an educational campaign on “Modern contraception”.

The campaign will begin in June and will aim at increasing the sexual culture of Bulgarian teenagers.

Around 240 secondary schools from 13 Bulgarian cities and towns will participate in the program.

The students will be introduced to the different types of contraception and opportunities for preventing unwanted pregnancy. They will also get familiar with the consequences of abortion at an early age.

Specialists will explain to the youngsters that the interruption of pregnancy could cause different infections, leading in many cases to inability to get pregnant or to spontaneous abortions. The teenagers will also be warned that in more severe cases, it could lead to removal of the uterus and inability to give birth.

After the end of the campaign, the organizers will make a summary of the information the kids have received and will announce if such initiatives are useful and needed for the Bulgarian teenagers.

According to statistics, Bulgaria ranks in one of the first places in Eastern Europe for number of abortions of girls age 15-19.

Given the number of kids (16'ish) that I see pushing prams around, this is probably a good idea!

I have been offered 100's of condoms but I pondered over this for a long while then, decided no, not something we could bring to the Orphanages. However, we have a few items for the doctors surgery in the village, I wonder what others thought if I were to offer them there?? Or should I just mind my own business and leave well alone

this is interesting, in the uk contraception is free, so is advice, for years i used the injection every month, until i came here to bulgaria, where the injection is illegal in the eu, interesting , so could not have it here. looking for alternatives i chose the pill, which had an adverse affect on me, the other alternative was the coil at 400 levs. how would any bulgarian afford to pay that kind of money. so educate all you like, the cost of prevention costs too much. stupid.
