We have stayed in many hotels in Sofia over the last seven years while commuting to or from the airport. Over this period we have normally paid between 50 and 90 Euro for a double room including breakfast.

Last Saturday we decided to take our son back to Sofia and book a hotel on the hoof and take pot :Good luck:luck, We tried all the run of the mill hotels but had left it too late unless we wanted the penthouse suite Sofia Hotels 927475117.

Eventually we found a hotel with two rooms and pet friendly as we had brought our Labrador with us for 27 Euro per room including breakfast Sofia Hotels 2345823347 we were obviously very sceptical but worth a shot.

When we arrived at the Bansko Hotel at the foot of mount Vitosha we thought we had misheard the prices it was not the Hilton but very clean and welcoming with good sized rooms with quality fittings. We ordered an evening meal sirloin steak chips and salad and a couple of bottles of Zagorka to wash it down 18 Leva.
The breakfast was standard continental but for the price very reasonable, allow about 20 minutes to get you to the airport as you have to pass through the new ring road close to the new Ikea site. We will definitely use it again Sofia Hotels 2706089290

I have had overnight stays in The Lion Hotel, the Budapest Hotel, Hotel Favorit and all three were excellent at very reasonable prices when booked through Booking.com which is an excellent site with good prices and easy to use. All three are walking distance from the coach and train station and near shops etc. I walk back to the station to pick up an OK taxi using the information desk to go to the airport as occasionally a hotel taxi can rip you off. I am staying in the ATM Hotel next week because that is near the airport and has good reviews. I will report back on that one later. Has anyone used it? It was on special at 18euros so I expect its new. Here's hoping.

Here's my report on the Hotel ATM. Don't really know what to say about it. It bears no resemblance to any of the other hotels I have used. The taxi driver found it hard to find although he seemed to know when the info lady in the coach station told him my destination. Another way to up the price mabe? Then he didn't have change so I went into the hotel to get some which they willingly gave me after I had mistaken the entrance for an office building opposite!!! That was good of the hotel and the reception staff were very friendly although the entrance was more like a hospital admissions area.
I was given a card with the room number on it but the usual place for such things was not there so I had to return to reception. You have to swipe it across the number outside the room which is the simplest form of entry I have ever used! Then I had to return to reception for help with the TV. Again, staff very helpful and came to show me. I would never have worked out how to use it myself. The most complicated system I have ever used bearing in mind, I am a frequent traveller. It seemed a new TV but colour and channel selection not good.
The room was huge. Clean but like a big office with side tables and sideboard very suitable for internet but definitely not cosy. Shower still had old soap in it and the door didn't work. Huge bed very comfy and everything else clean. Very basic with only an office type chair as an extra for furnishing.
The shuttle service was excellent and only 5 minutes to the airport. Cost from coach station 8levs. Shuttle free. Can't fault it for an overnight stay.
Breakfast was again, extremely basic and the worst I have had. At 8.30am obviously most travellers had eaten because there was no cereal, and little else except for tired looking slices of the usual plastic cheese and ham and slices of bread which you could toast. Coffee was from a machine! Later, croissants were provided and I thought they would be warm. They were not.
The evening meal for 6 levs was basic 'Little Chef' type fair but quite okay for the money and a pleasant waitress although my request for a glass of wine originally arrived as a bottle of Schweppes soda!
I don't know if I would recommend it. Okay for the price (I paid only 39levs!) and very good for overnight stay for travelling but definitely not for a longer stay. Apparently there is a big Mall nearby but I didn't see it on my evening walk so I guess you might need a car.
I always give my hotel review to Booking.com and on reading other reviews they ranged from a 5 to a 10! From this and descriptions, the rooms must vary as do the staff and just about everything else plus its probably what you are expecting and for 39 levs I got what I paid for. A no frills stay which was what I got with friendly staff! s

Just an update. On our return to Britain recently we spent our last night in The Lion Hotel in Sofia. Would definitely recommend. Staff helpful and all speak English but love it if you use a bit of Bulgarian! Rooms excellent with big TV and lots of channels. Restaurant is unusual as its a lovely patisserie but they have a special breakfast menu for guests with a good choice including Énglish' which is of course a Bulgarian version but can recommend the croissants pancakes and omelettes with choice of filling. Taxi comes to the door and costs only about 12 lev instead of the usual 15 (never understood why the price difference given the same amount of traffic!) Journey to airport only about 20mins at 10am although might vary of course. Its walking distance straight down the road from the train and coach station - about 15 mins at my speed.

Totally agree with you, have stayed there twice over the years and found it very comfortable and reasonably priced g

We stay at the Sofia Princess which is across the road from the bus/train station. Always get a good price for this hotel if you search internet for Sofia hotels. We don't get a taxi from the hotel but walk across to the taxis at the bus station and pay approximately 13 - 15 leva and it takes approx. 20 minutes to get to the airport. Last driver we got showed us various places on his ipad where he had taken his customers and gave us his card when we asked for one. We are thinking of hiring him for a day or two as he was very interesting and told us the history of the various sites.

I stayed in a hotel in Sofia last week called the Cheap Hotel. There is nothing cheap about this place except the price. Clean and quiet and right by the bus station.

I paid 40 lev for the night for a single room. I highly recommend the place to other forum members. Google it if you want to book.

have stayed in a few hostels in Sofia, the last 4 times i stayed at Crosspoint Hotel, This one is very convenient for the airport.
They have very good bed´s! Clean. Next to the market. But for socialising you´d better go to hostel mostel.

In VT i should recommend Hostel Mostel. Very nice staff, very nice hotel, no downside at all.

Also stayed in a few nice (very cheap) rooms at the black sea, if anybody is interested, i have too look it up.

I can vouch for hostel Mostel in Sofia too. Clean, cheap, comfy and very friendly.
Stayed here recently as well:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Nice hotel, good food, clean room and when reserved through 'booking.com' it's a lot cheaper than when paying the hotel directly through it's website.
€17 a night - incl. an 'Eat as much as you like' buffet breakfast. The evening meal was cheap and although not mighty fancy, good for the price.
Only a 15 minute drive to the airport too.
