This mornings news includes details of a rabies scare involving Sam Fox, who while on holiday in Thailand, was feeding and stroking stray cats, one of which turned around and bit her as a thankyou ! The article also warns about the risks, not only in Asia and other far flung exotic locations but also a reminder that it is still prevelant within Europe, with the amount of stray cats and dogs in Bulgaria and the number of expats keen to rescue them, i wondered if anyone was actually aware of the dangers, and had a look to see how much of a risk it actually was here. In 2009 there are plenty of confirmed cases and therefore definately a risk. Also the symptons in humans don't show for upto 3 months after infection,by which time it is too late for treatment, and therefore anyone bitten, and potentially scratched by any stray or recently rescued dog or cat should seek immediate medical attention.
I will add a map showing the confirmed cases, from 2009 in Bulgaria, solely from cats and dogs just as soon as i figure out how to do it.. lol
