I have a question from my partner, he wants to know does anyone know if its possible to buy Koi carp in Bulgaria????? he has kept fish since he was a child and his words"
I can't live without them"

I too would like to know if you can keep fish in a pond in bulgaria, my concerns are the freezing winters, can fish cope. c

I don't think the freezing is the problem because Koi will live in the bottom in the cold weather and they slow their metabolism down to almost nothing during the winter and tend to eat nothing, the secret would be to dig the poll very deep I would say 2 meters

Hi Krypton I don't think you can buy Koi in Bulgaria I do believe they have to be imported? however I maybe wrong but from my research I can't find any suppliers at all in Bulgaria.

I hear on the grapevine that nets is a keeper of Koi? and so I want to ask you nets did you have any when you were in BG????????

Hi Cheekychops yes I do keep koi but as for getting them in BG I don't think it's possible I did try but it seems that the only way was to import them, however that was sometime ago things may have changed? here is some of mine

If you dig it deep enough they will be fine because when the cold winter comes they mainly stay at the bottom and their metabolism slows down to almost nothing, the bigger problem is keeping the water cool in the summer even in the UK I sometimes have to add ice to cool the water down, and you can imagine how much I need my pool is 6500 gallons

Has anyone managed to find out if its possible to get these fish imported and what the problems would be with the customs? and more importantly how the fish would cope with the journey ???
