Being so far away (in England) it is very hard to get any idea as to what effect the global slump has had to you all in Bulgaria. We in England seem to have suffered fairly badly with high unemployment, falling house prices, banks not willing to lend money and now we face the prospect of severe public spending cuts.
What I would like to know is how it has affected all the people who have moved out to Bulgaria? and what effect has this had on the Bulgarians s

To be perfectly honest, recession has still not really hit the UK, 22nd June will put that right tho, house prices only hit those that want to move which really, in most cases is a luxury, lets not forget that prices have recovered to within 10% of their highest!

Yeah there has been job losses but personally I know of 1 person that has lost his job, but to be fair probably would have happened anyway. The house market has never been so busy, estate agencies can't get properties quick enough and there are loads of jobs going

The recession here is the same as anywhere. Personally the only thing that really affects us is the exchange rate. Around Christmas time the rate was bad, but it is slowly rising again, hence our cost for living are getting easier. I would hate to have to work over here to earn Levas to live on, or live on a BG pension as it is tough.

Always think of income before buying any property abroad. As work is hard to find for locals let alone someone that cannot speak or understand the lingo. If you are thinking of setting up business, then think again as the locals will not charge at a UK rate. Therefore survival is rare and people end up going back after losing lots of money. Being retired is another story though but beware in all Countries people usually think that we British are ATM machines and that we have plenty of wonga. (not). We always tell them that we are on Pension and are in the same boat as them.
