Hysterics over Health Insurance Cards
Bulgarians have been panic-stricken a couple of weeks before Easter about health insurance cards. At early dawn people besiege offices issuing the documents which will come into force on April 1st. The health insurance cards will provide access to free medical treatment for Bulgarians abroad. The rumours that traveling to other EU countries will not be allowed without such cards panicked tour operators that planned group trips for the holidays. Cards are issued in district centres and in four offices in Sofia and this necessitates month-long waiting for a card, people complained. To cap it all those willing to obtain a card are obliged to get it issued only from a specific office according to address registration.
Do not worry about going abroad, health insurance cards will not be demanded at the border, officials from the Health Ministry assured.
