Bulgaria's Regional Development Minister, Rosen Plevneliev, has officially confirmed that construction of the next section of the Trakiya Highway will go ahead as scheduled, on May 3, 2010.
Plevneliev announced on Friday the official decision on the winner of the contract for Lot 2 of the highway, the new section that will link Stara Zagora and Nova Zagora.
" Unified Highway Trace will build the section of Stara Zagora - Nova Zagora with a length of 31.8 kilometers. The proposed price for executing the contract is BGN 137 868 000, and this is also recorded in the official decision," the Minister stated, referring to the announcement of the selection committee on Thursday.
Bozhidar Yotov, Head of the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA), stated that 66 companies had purchased tender documents, and eight had been involved in the procedure itself.
Four of those bidders had been disqualified because their documents were not in compliance with the terms of the Public Procurement Act, he explained.
" The selection commission has thoroughly examined the offer of " Unified Highway Trace" , and conscientiously carried out its duty," said Yotov.
He further announced that the RIA Board had decided to publish the contract for construction of Lot 3 of the Trakiya Highway, which is to be built between Nova Zagora and Yambol. The winning consortium, " Unified Highway Trace" , reacted to the official announcement, stating that it welcomed the decision of the Bulgarian government.

| this was the one with the lowest quote was it not, and you have to ask do they know the combination of sand to cement as we know the roads break up rather easily here, due to the lack of knowledge of how to build them in the first place. |

| Hope they don't use the same Tarmac it would melt over here
Motorways over here (Well the ones we've been on) are cement based. Except where they have been bodged up with Tarmac |

| tarmac does melt in the summer and concrete cracks in the winters, not a lot of hope really and the worst road i have ever seen is the one to bricloage on the way to dobrich, the holes are so big they do damage. we travelled recently in the dark and hit one caused major damage to tyre and rim, unless anyone knows a worse one than that. |

| yep just one long tea break on this road I remember evertime I would read something in the newspaper about the completion of this road, I used to think great, now I take what is said in the paper, believe half of it, then think about the half I have believed and then forget it because it just does not happen. |

| Mind you Fletch being honest it's no different in Britain they start something and then leave a load of cones all over the place I bet they don't leave cones out in BG? I remember over Christmas I was travelling round the M25 and the amount of cones that were out was unbelievable, when I got to my friends and asked them about all the cones they said " they are always there but we never ever seen anyone working"
