Bulgarian Medical Staff Set for National Protest on April 7
The Bulgarian Doctors’ Union has declared a national protest against the policies of the government.
The protest will take place on April 7, which is the Day of Medics. The decision has been made during the latest meeting of the Bulgarian Doctors’ Union, its press center announced on Sunday.
The Union is calling up a national meeting of its delegates for March 27, 2010, in order to hold a debate on the various issues in the healthcare sector. The doctors disagree with the policies of the Borisov government in a number of areas.
The Doctors’ Union is going to submit to the Council of Ministers a proposal for amendments in the Act for the 2010 Budget of the National Health Insurance Fund demanding that the budget be increased to the 2009 level.
The doctors further declare themselves against the delegated budgets of certain hospitals and limits on spending for pre-hospital care. They also demand new legal provisions guaranteeing the immediate payment by the National Health Insurance Fund of money for services performed by medical staff.
The Doctors’ Union wants to see all of its demands gratified within a month.
